Respawn Maps ("the app") is published by VOLTGENIX LLC (operating as Ash Build). This policy explains what the app does with your data. The short version: there is no account, there is no profile, and nothing you do in the app is tied to your name.
The app has no sign-up, no login, and no user profile. We never ask for your name, email address, phone number, or date of birth, and there is nowhere for you to enter them.
The app asks for foreground location only — the permission Android calls "while using the app". It does not have, and cannot request, background location access. When you close the app or your screen turns off, location updates stop.
Your location is used for three things:
Your coordinates are not stored on any server and are not written to a log. They are used in memory on your device and sent to Mapbox — via our own proxy, described below — only as part of a search or a directions request you initiated.
| When | What is sent | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| You type a search of 3+ characters | The text you typed, and a rounded approximate location to bias results | Our proxy → Mapbox Geocoding |
| You start guidance, or go off route | Your start coordinates and your destination coordinates | Our proxy → Mapbox Directions |
| The map draws tiles and fonts | Standard map tile requests | Mapbox, directly from the Maps SDK |
| You tap "Google Maps" on a destination | The destination coordinates | Google Maps, on your device |
| You buy or restore Pro | Purchase receipt and an anonymous random ID | RevenueCat and Google Play |
Nothing else leaves the device. In particular, your saved places and your chosen map style are never uploaded.
Search and directions requests pass through a small proxy server we run (a Supabase Edge Function) before reaching Mapbox. It exists so we can rate-limit and cache requests and rotate our Mapbox key without shipping a new app version.
The proxy does not log request URLs, so it does not log your search terms or your coordinates. Its logs contain only error codes and timings. It caches geocoding responses for up to 24 hours, keyed on the search text and the rounded proximity, and that cache is held in memory and lost whenever the server restarts.
Mapbox provides the map, search, and directions. Mapbox's own analytics telemetry is explicitly turned off by the app at startup. Mapbox's handling of the requests it does receive is governed by their privacy policy: mapbox.com/legal/privacy.
Purchases are processed by Google Play and managed through RevenueCat. RevenueCat identifies you by a random anonymous ID it generates on your device; we never send it your name, email, or any identifier you gave us, because we never had one. We can see that an anonymous ID has an active subscription. We cannot see who you are.
Payment details are handled entirely by Google Play and never reach the app or us. RevenueCat's policy: revenuecat.com/privacy.
Stored locally, and never uploaded:
Uninstalling the app deletes all of it. You can also clear the search cache and remove saved places from within the app's Settings screen.
There are no ads in this app, and there is no advertising SDK in it. We do not sell or share your data with data brokers, ad networks, or analytics brokers. There is no cross-app or cross-site tracking, and no advertising ID is read.
The app is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect anything from them. Since there is no account and no personal data collection, there is nothing for us to delete on request.
Because there is no account, we hold no personal data about you to export or delete, and we could not identify your data if you asked us to.
If you are in the UK or EU, the lawful basis for the limited processing described here is performance of a contract (delivering the map and search you asked for) and legitimate interests (keeping the service running and within budget).
If this policy changes materially, the "last updated" date above changes and the new version ships with the app update that caused the change.
